Welcome to the Community
South Carolina Meet Up was created with a simple idea: help people find their people and find their place.
We want this to be a welcoming community where people can make new connections, discover things to do, explore South Carolina, share experiences, and feel comfortable participating.
A community this large includes people of different ages, backgrounds, personalities, experiences, beliefs, and walks of life. We don't expect everyone to agree on everything.
We do expect everyone to treat one another with respect.
These Community Guidelines apply to South Carolina Meet Up-operated community spaces and should be read together with any additional rules posted within a specific SCMU group, page, event, or platform.
1. Be Respectful
Treat other members like people you'd be willing to meet face-to-face.
Healthy disagreement is okay. Personal attacks are not.
Do not:
Bully or harass other members
Threaten or intimidate others
Deliberately humiliate another member
Repeatedly target someone who has asked you to stop contacting them
Encourage others to harass or target another person
Post content intended primarily to provoke hostility or disrupt the community
You don't have to agree with everyone to treat them with basic respect.
2. Everyone Deserves to Feel Welcome
South Carolina Meet Up is intended to bring people together.
Discrimination, hateful conduct, demeaning attacks, or harassment directed at people based on protected characteristics or personal identity are not welcome in SCMU-operated spaces.
Members may have different backgrounds, lifestyles, cultures, opinions, and experiences. Participate respectfully.
3. Respect People's Boundaries
Community connection does not equal unlimited access to another person.
Do not pressure members for:
Phone numbers
Addresses
Social media accounts
Dates or romantic attention
Transportation
Money
Personal information
Continued communication after they have declined
If someone says no, stops responding, or asks you to stop contacting them, respect that boundary.
4. Protect Your Privacy — and Everyone Else's
Think carefully before sharing personal information publicly.
Do not post another person's private information without permission, including information such as:
Home addresses
Private phone numbers
Personal email addresses
Financial information
Private conversations or messages where disclosure would violate someone's reasonable expectation of privacy
Other sensitive identifying information
Never use information obtained through the community to threaten, stalk, intimidate, exploit, or harass another person.
5. Meeting People Safely
South Carolina Meet Up helps create opportunities for connection, but every member remains responsible for making their own decisions about meeting and interacting with others.
When meeting someone you do not already know, consider sensible precautions:
Meet in a public place
Tell someone you trust where you're going
Keep control of your own transportation when possible
Protect sensitive personal and financial information
Trust your judgment if something feels wrong
Leave any situation where you feel unsafe
South Carolina Meet Up cannot guarantee the identity, intentions, conduct, or safety of individual community members.
6. Official SCMU Events vs. Member-Organized Gatherings
We love seeing friendships and connections grow beyond the screen.
However, there is an important distinction between an official South Carolina Meet Up event and an activity independently organized by members.
An event is official only when South Carolina Meet Up expressly identifies it as an official SCMU event through an authorized SCMU website, page, account, communication, or representative.
Members may not:
Represent themselves as official SCMU event organizers without authorization
Create events using SCMU branding in a way that suggests official sponsorship or approval
Collect money while representing themselves as South Carolina Meet Up without authorization
Enter agreements or make commitments on behalf of South Carolina Meet Up
Suggest that an independently organized gathering is supervised or guaranteed by SCMU when it is not
A gathering does not become an official SCMU event simply because SCMU members attend or because it was discussed within the community.
Additional rules may apply to member-organized gatherings within particular SCMU groups or platforms.
7. No Scams, Fraud, or Exploitation
We take attempts to exploit community members seriously.
Do not use SCMU-operated spaces to:
Scam or defraud members
Request money under false pretenses
Run deceptive schemes
Impersonate another person, business, or SCMU representative
Collect personal or financial information deceptively
Promote fraudulent opportunities
Exploit members looking for friendship, assistance, services, housing, employment, or community
Suspicious activity may be removed and accounts may be restricted or removed from SCMU-operated spaces.
8. Business Promotion and Solicitation
We want to support local businesses while keeping the community useful for everyone.
Business advertising, promotions, fundraising, sales posts, recruiting, and other solicitation may be limited to designated posts, days, discussions, or spaces.
Follow the promotional rules of the particular SCMU group, page, or platform you are using.
Repeated unsolicited promotion, spam, or attempts to bypass community advertising rules may be removed.
Being permitted to promote a business within an SCMU-operated space does not mean the business is endorsed, verified, sponsored, or guaranteed by South Carolina Meet Up.
9. Keep Posts Relevant and Genuine
Help us keep the community useful.
Avoid:
Repetitive posts
Spam
Deliberately misleading information
Fake accounts or impersonation
Manipulative engagement tactics
Unrelated promotional content
Content intended primarily to disrupt discussions
Knowingly false information presented as fact
Different SCMU spaces may have additional posting requirements based on their purpose.
10. Photos, Videos, and Other Members
Respect people's privacy when taking or sharing photographs and videos, particularly in situations where someone would reasonably expect privacy.
Official South Carolina Meet Up events may have separate photography or recording notices or policies.
Do not use photographs, videos, names, or personal information about another community member to harass, impersonate, exploit, or misrepresent them.
11. Follow Platform Rules
South Carolina Meet Up operates across third-party platforms including social media services.
When participating through those platforms, you must also follow the applicable platform's rules, policies, and terms.
A post or account may therefore be subject to action by both the platform and South Carolina Meet Up.
12. Reporting a Concern
If you see behavior that may violate these Guidelines, please report it to the moderators or administrators of the applicable SCMU community.

If you believe someone is in immediate danger or a crime is occurring, contact the appropriate local emergency or law-enforcement service rather than relying on SCMU administrators to provide emergency assistance.
13. Enforcement
South Carolina Meet Up may take reasonable action to protect its community and enforce these Guidelines.
Depending on the circumstances, action may include:
Removing content
Issuing a warning
Limiting participation
Declining or removing promotional content
Removing a member from an SCMU-operated group or community
Blocking access to SCMU-operated social accounts or spaces
Restricting participation in future SCMU activities where appropriate
Serious conduct may result in immediate removal without a prior warning.
We may consider the severity of the conduct, context, previous violations, safety concerns, and the interests of the broader community when determining an appropriate response.
14. These Guidelines Will Grow With Us
South Carolina Meet Up is growing, and our Community Guidelines may evolve along with the community.
We may update these Guidelines as new community features, events, programs, or challenges develop.
When changes are made, the Last Updated date above may be revised.
